What Is Ultraviolet Radiation, And What Are Its Disadvantages

Ultraviolet radiation is a form of electromagnetic rays. The wavelength of these rays is less than that of ultraviolet light; hence, they are called “ultraviolet light.” In the spectrum of light coming from the Sun, it’s near the baggy color of visible light. Ultraviolet rays are a form of electromagnetic waves; they have wavelengths ranging from 10 nm to 400 nm. Ultraviolet light rays lie between X-rays and visible light.

Parabagani ultraviolet waves account for 10% of the light coming from the sun; certain types of lights also can be generated from mercury vapor lamps, electric arcs, etc. Ultraviolet rays can produce many types of chemical changes, and they create brightness in many substances. Many substances and organisms start shining due to the effect of ultraviolet rays.

90% of harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun are intercepted by the ozone layer. Complete information about the ozone layer

It affects trees, plants, and organisms more than visible light. Visible light only heats trees, plants, and organisms, whereas ultraviolet radiation can produce many chemical changes in trees, plants, and organisms.

Sunburn is the most prominent disease of getting burnt due to prolonged exposure to sunlight; it is caused by the side effects of ultraviolet rays.

Side Effects Of Ultraviolet Rays On Humans

Human health is adversely affected by ultraviolet rays, although ultraviolet rays help make vitamin D in our bodies. Vitamin D is a vitamin urgent for our bodies.

Scientists explain that sitting in mild sunlight twice a week for 5 to 15 minutes makes our bodies get enough vitamin D, but it hurts our bodies if we spend too much time in the sun.

Sitting in the sun for too long is the first thing our eye retina suffers, followed by our skin and immune system being affected by ultraviolet rays.

Ultraviolet rays burn the skin and also pose a risk of skin cancer. This radiation can directly damage the DNA of our cells. Ultraviolet rays can also increase the skin diseases already occurring.

Effect Of Ultraviolet Rays On Living Beings

Many types of organisms, such as birds, reptiles, insects, and bees, can see ultraviolet light; human eyes cannot see ultraviolet light. Insects determine their path by seeing ultraviolet light, the urine of many organisms is ultraviolet.

When seen in light, it starts shining, due to which birds of prey easily find their prey. This is the quality of ultraviolet light that pest controllers use. Insects can be attracted to cages with this light.

Effect Of Ultraviolet Rays On Plants

Ultraviolet radiation in very small quantities helps in the process of photosynthesis in plants, but ultraviolet rays in large quantities are harmful for plants; they reduce the size of plants and can ruin many crops. There are some plants that are more ultraviolet.

Rays cause harm, due to which the production of fruits and flowers in them reduces, and there are some plant species that get affected by disease under the influence of ultraviolet rays.

Ultraviolet rays can change the DNA of plant cells, hence ultraviolet rays in large quantities. It is harmful for trees, plants, and crops.

What Are Those Creatures That Can See Ultraviolet Light?

Honeyflies, butterflies, reindeer, scorpions, salmon fish, and some species of birds can see ultraviolet light. Scorpions shine in ultraviolet light, but scientists do not know why this happens.
