India has now become the top exporter of smartphones to the US, indicating moving away from China in the manufacturing supply chain due to tariff conflicts. According to a report by the research firm Canalis, Made in India contributed 44% to the imported smartphones in the US during the April-June period this year.
Last year, India had only 13% share in the same period. In contrast, China’s share in the smartphone exported to the US declined to 25% in the June quarter, which was 61% a year ago.
Vietnam’s contribution to the US to smartphone exports also overtook China, which was 30%. This is the first example when India has exported more smartphones to the US than China. A canalis report states that smartphone construction in India has increased by 240% compared to the previous year.
