In TV and newspapers, you must have seen Ashwagandha advertisements etc. or hearing of their names and lower from the older, you must think what is Ashwagandha or what is the qualities and disadvantages of Ashwagandha? Ashwagandha is one of the most important and popular herbs in Ayurveda history, it is a form of alternative medicine based on Indian principles of Naturopathy. It has been used for thousands of years to relieve stress, increase body energy levels and improve concentration. Ashwagandha refers to both unique smell and ability to increase strength according to its name.

Its botanical name is “Vithania Somnifera”, and is also known by many other names, including Indian ginseng and winter cherries.

Other names of Ashwagandha:-

  • Hindi (Ashwagandha in Hindi) – Asgandha, Ashwagandha, Punir, Nagori Asgandha
  • English – Winter Cherry (Winter Cherry), Poyjanas Gooseberry
  • Sanskrit – Varahakarni, Varada, Balda, leprosy, Ashwagandha

The Ashwagandha plant is a small shrub with yellow flowers originally found in India and North Africa. Plant root or leaves extracts or powder are used to treat various physical conditions. Ashwagandha is a major herb in Indian Ayurvedic medicine and has become a popular supplement due to its health benefits.

1. It is helpful in reducing blood sugar:-

In many researches, Ashwagandha has found the properties of reducing blood sugar levels in the body. One study found that this increased insulin secretion and improved insulin sensitivity in muscle cells. Also, many human studies have found that it can reduce blood sugar levels in both healthy people and people with diabetes. Limited evidence suggests that Ashwagandha reduces blood sugar levels through the secretion of insulin and its effect on sensitivity.

2. Protects from cancer:-

Studies have shown that vithferin (a compound in ashwagandha) – helps to induce apoptosis, which reduces cancer cells gradually. And it also prevents the growth of new cancer cells in many ways. Studies on animals suggest that it can help treat many types of cancer including breasts, lungs, colon, brain and ovarian cancer. Although no evidence suggests that Ashwagandha also has the same effect in humans, the current research is encouraging. Studies have shown that a bioactive compound in Ashwagandha promotes the deficiency of tumor cells and is effective against many types of cancer.

Cortisol is known as a stress hormone that your adrenal glands leave in response to stress when your blood sugar levels are greatly reduced. Studies have shown that Ashwagandha can help reduce the level of cortisol. A study in chronicly stressed adults found that people with whom Ashwagandha was used had a significant decrease in cortisol. And the highest dosagers experienced a reduction of 25% -30% on average. Ashwagandha dose can help reduce cortisol levels in individuals with low stress.

Researchers also reported that the group of antioxidants in the blood that took herbs increased and experienced better sperm quality. Ashwagandha helps to increase the level of testosterone and greatly increases the quality and fertility of sperm in men.

In a research in a 60 -day study in stressed adults, the group experienced 17% decrease in LDL (poor) cholesterol from taking the highest dose of standardized Ashwagandha extracts and 11% decrease in triglycerides. Ashwagandha can help reduce the risk of heart disease by reducing the level of cholesterol and triglyceride.

Research has shown that it promotes antioxidant activity that protects nerve cells from harmful free radicals. Although Ashwagandha has been traditionally used to promote memory in Ayurvedic medicine. A controlled study found that healthy men, who took 500 mg of standardized extracts per day, have found significant improvement in their response time and work performance. Ashwagandha supplements can improve brain function, memory, response time and ability to perform functions.

9. Rescue from liver diseases:-

Ashwagandha is used for many diseases. The anti-inflammatory properties found in Ashwagandha are helpful in removing the problem of inflammation in the liver. It reduces physical inflammation. If it is consumed with milk before sleeping at night, it will prove to be very beneficial. It also reduces the problem of fatty liver. By consuming it, the liver protects the liver from the bad effects of harmful toxins and also detoxes the liver. Grind 2 grams of Ashwagandha powder, 2 grams of gooseberry (Dhatri fruit) and 1 gram of liquorice and grind them. Regular consumption of one spoon of Ashwagandha powder with sabh and evening water increases the light of the eyes. Due to the benefits of Ashwagandha, the eyes are relaxed. The use of ashwagandha helps in removing the problem of sleeplessness.

11. Ashwagandha is safe for most people:-

Ashwagandha is a safe complement for most people, although its long -term effects are unknown. However, some individuals should not take it, including pregnant and breastfeeding women. Additionally, the drug takers for thyroid disease should be careful while taking ashwagandha, as it may increase the level of thyroid hormone in some people. It can also reduce blood sugar and blood pressure levels, so if you take it, the dose of the drug may need to be adjusted. The recommended dose of Ashwagandha depends on the type of complement. Extracts are more effective than raw ashwagandha root or leaf powder. Remember to follow the instructions on the label. The standardized root extract is usually taken 450–500 mg capsules once or twice daily.
