Plastic cans aren’t right for everything. It can be harmful to keep foods like hot, sour, oily, and raw meat. Using glass and steel for perfect storage is a safer and better option.
Talking about kitchens today, plastic cans have become an essential part of every home. Whether in the fridge, on the kitchen shelf, or in the storeroom, everywhere you’ll see colorful plastic containers. They are easy to use, light, and also look good, so people store all types of food in them without thinking much, but have you ever thought that this habit can gradually affect your health? Is? Sometimes things in plastic cans change their taste or smell strange.
Not only this, in some cases chemicals present inside plastic can be found in food, which can cause harm in the long run. Even if the container says “food grade,” it still doesn’t make sense to put everything in it. Especially there are some kinds of food that don’t quite match with plastic; if you also put everything in plastic without thinking, now’s time to be a little cautious.
1. Adding hot food can be costly
Hot food put straight into plastic cans is the most common mistake. When food’s hot, the plastic surface starts weakening. It can cause harmful ingredients in it to dissolve in food. This thing can slowly take a toll on the body. Better let food cool first, then put it in a safe pot.
2. Sour and spicy food can spoil the quality
Tomato vegetables, curry, or spicy food is not considered good for plastic. Such foods can react with plastic. It not only affects the taste of food but also puts stubborn stains on the cans that aren’t easily cleaned.
3. Food containing oil and ghee increases the smell
If you keep food filled with oil or ghee in plastic, keep in mind this habit can spoil cans quickly. Lubricating foods leave a scent in plastic and slowly can’t fit. Plus, the risk of chemicals getting mixed into such food increases.
4. Raw meat and fish can become a cause of danger
Placing raw meat or seafood in plastic isn’t quite right. It increases the risk of bacteria spreading and can sometimes leak from cans. It might affect other food items too. Glass or steel airtight containers are considered safer for such foods.
What To Do For Proper Storage?
If you want to keep your kitchen safe, make some easy changes. Increase use of glass or steel utensils, especially for hot and sensitive food. Limit plastic use to dry and cold things only. It’ll preserve food and your health.
