Why Does Weakness Occur? Know Its Causes, Symptoms, And Remedies

The reverse term of physical strength is weakness. In this, the person also feels a decrease in the normal strength of the muscles in physical activities. Along with this, you may also feel tired and lack energy. Because, due to weakness, the muscles have to work harder to do any work, as a result of which the body starts feeling tired and lacking energy. Along with this, this weakness can also affect any part of the body. For example, due to weakness of legs, one starts feeling difficulty just by walking a little. When the body begins to become weak and tired continuously and for a long time, that condition is also called asthenia.

As you know, when we do a task with one of our organs, first the brain sends signals to the muscles, and then those muscles act. But in neuromuscular weakness, muscles feel weak in receiving or acting on these signals due to any injury or damage.

At the same time, in non-neuromuscular weakness (NNW), you feel weakness in your muscles without any injury or damage.

Due to or along with weakness, you also have to face the following symptoms. Like-

3. Lack of physical energy

4. Muscle cramps

5. Fever

6. Joint pain

7. Pain in body parts

8. Delay in movement of muscles

9. Body limb tremors

10. Dizziness

11. Breathing problems

Additionally, people may also show other symptoms other than those mentioned above, which are not mentioned here. 4. Graves’ disease, caused by autoimmune diseases such as myasthenia gravis

5. Neuromuscular disorders such as multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

6. Causes of anemia

7. Causes of anxiety or depression

8. Due to not getting enough sleep

9. Due to vitamin deficiency in the body

10. Causes of jaundice

11. Causes of fever

12. Causes of heart disease

13. Causes of chronic fatigue syndrome, etc.

What Tests Are Done To Check Weakness?

If you complain of weakness and are unable to find any real reason behind it, the doctor may do some tests to find out its hidden reason.

1. In physical examination, the doctor may examine your body’s reflexes (consciousness), senses, and muscle tone. So that he can find out the reason for weakness on the surface. If this does not lead to any conclusion, he may advise you to get some more tests done. Like-

2. Getting a CT scan or MRI test to understand your body’s internal state may be recommended.

3. It may be recommended to have a complete blood test to check for any infection or vitamin B12, folate, or other vitamins and minerals.

4. Can be asked to undergo biochemical tests to check blood glucose, serum electrolytes, liver function tests, renal function tests, thyroid function tests, etc.

5. Autoantibody screening may be recommended to rule out the risk of an autoimmune disease.

6. Tests may be recommended to rule out the risk of chronic inflammatory disease.

7. Can be asked to undergo electromyography (EMG) to test nerve activity of muscles.

8. May also be asked to have a urine test.

9. Apart from this, HIV testing, ECG, Echo, tuberculin testing, chest X-ray, urine toxicology screen, etc. can also be done to find out the risk of dangerous problems like heart disease and stroke.

Control And Caution

What to do to control weakness?

You should use the following methods to control or prevent the problem of weakness. Like-

1. One must exercise regularly for about 30 minutes daily. So that the muscles of your body remain strong and their strength does not decrease.

2. Eat nutritious foods, such as fruits, green vegetables, etc., to relieve fatigue and energy loss. Consuming calcium-, protein-, and vitamin-rich foods strengthens your muscles and makes it easier for the body to fight many diseases.

3. Avoid consuming alcohol and caffeine.

4. Get enough sleep for 8 to 9 hours daily.

5. Drink plenty of water.

The advice given here is not a substitute for any medical help. Therefore, if you are feeling very weak, see a doctor as soon as possible.

How Is Weakness Treated?

Treatment of weakness depends on its cause, and the following methods can be used. Like-

1.With the help of occupational therapy, some exercises are taken to strengthen your upper body. It may also be advisable to use some devices or tools that help you in your daily activities. It is usually given to patients to recover from stroke.

2. In physical therapy, it is advised to do some exercises to improve the lives of patients suffering from problems like multiple sclerosis and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

3. It may also be recommended to take some over-the-counter medications such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen for problems such as peripheral neuropathy, chronic fatigue syndrome, and neuralgia. Additionally, thyroid hormone replacement treatment is recommended for thyroid patients.

4. If you have weakness due to electrolyte imbalance, then the deficiency of any vitamin or mineral in the body is eliminated by changing your diet.

5. If you are feeling weak due to any condition that is not being cured by medicines or therapy, then in that case the help of surgery can also be taken.

6. If you have weakness due to dehydration, you are advised to consume fluids, and you may also be given fluids through intravenous lines.

7. Blood transfusion can be done to overcome the problem of severe anemia because lack of blood in the body can be the main cause of weakness.

8. In many cases, people have to face weakness due to cancer.
