What Is The Dark Web?

It’s a collection of websites that exist on hidden networks, making them difficult to find through search engines or regular browsers. Many dark websites use the Tor encryption tool to hide their identities. Tor is often used to conceal your identity and activity. With Tor, you can hide your location or make it appear as if you are in a different country. Tor is similar to a VPN service.

When you use Tor to access a website, the process is similar to accessing it through Google. To access any website on the dark web, you need to use Tor because you can’t access these sites without it. Using Tor involves cycling requests through different IP addresses multiple times to ensure website security and anonymity, allowing you to browse the website without issues.

While you can visit dark web websites, identifying who operates them and interacting with them is difficult. If you make a mistake and your information or identity is exposed, it can be dangerous.

Why Is The Dark Web Needed?

Not every dark website uses Tor. Some use services like I2P, similar to Silk Road Reloaded. However, the method is similar to Tor. It opens websites in the same way. Users need to use the right tools to access specific URLs and IP addresses. However, you should be well-informed about the process to use it correctly. For example, Silk Road is a dark web site used for buying and selling illegal items, like drugs. There are legitimate uses of the Dark Web. Some use it to communicate with people outside their region.

Sources say intelligence agencies in the US and UK use the dark web for communication. The dark web gained attention in August 2015 when 10 GB of data from the Ashley Madison website was stolen and leaked onto it. This site was designed for married women looking to cheat on their husbands. Hackers stole its data and threatened to release it if the site wasn’t closed. Ashley Madison users were blackmailed, being asked to pay $2500 in Bitcoin or have their personal information revealed. In 2015, the UK government created a cybercrime unit to manage the dark web, combat such crimes, and shut down sites spreading child pornography.

What Is The Deep Web?

The deep web refers to web pages that regular search engines can’t find. This includes the dark web, databases, webmail pages, and registration forms. These websites are blocked from search engines, meaning we cannot access them using normal search methods. Things like passwords and bank security, which are hidden from public view, are part of the deep web.
