Early sex education in the US and Europe focused on being good and not having sex before marriage. They also talked about being clean. They didn’t talk much about the body or emotions.
Sex education became more common in Western countries in the 1940s and 1950s. In 1942, the government said that knowing about sex was important for health. But schools still said not to have sex before marriage. The 1960s and 1970s were a time of big changes. Sex education started to become more talked about and things. In 1964, a group called Siecus was formed. They wanted sex education to be unbiased and based on science. This was when people started to accept sex as normal and healthy.
In 1981, a law called AFLA said to focus on not having sex. But in the late 1980s and early 1990s, a disease called HIV/AIDS became a huge problem. People realized that sex education was important to prevent diseases. Schools started teaching about condoms and how to stay safe. They also talked about diseases you can get from sex.
In 1994, a big meeting in Cairo talked about sex and health. They said everyone has a right to know about sex and babies. The meeting said young people should receive sex education that they can understand. It should also respect them. This was a big step in making sex education a basic right for everyone.

This emphasized the need for new ways to teach sex education. These methods must work both in person and online. They must also be easy to access.
Now, sex education is seen as vital to a good education. Groups like the World Health Organization (WHO) support full sex education. They see it as a human right. It enhances health, well-being, and fairness. These groups back education based on facts that include all people. These programs are taught without judging others.
