Grapes are the food in focus right now for nutritionist. “Changing weather requires little adjustment to our diets, and grapes are super refreshing and incredibly healthy,” she says.
In an Instagram post, she explained how grapes are useful for our overall health and what properties they have.
1) Anti-inflammatory
Flavonoids and proanthocyanidins found in grapefruit, classes of chemical compounds, can help us offset negative effects of chronic inflammation. Grapes may thus be more effective for reducing inflammation than synthetic drugs.
2) Anti-cancer effects
Resveratrol, an antioxidant found in grapes, may help reduce inflammation and prevent the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body. Grapes also contain quercetin, anthocyanin, and catechin antioxidants—all of which have cancer-fighting properties.
3) Eye Health
Grapefruit contains compounds that help protect them from ultraviolet rays that could damage delicate eye cells. Lutein and zeaxanthin are especially useful because they protect the eye’s macula from blue light effects from devices like mobiles and tablets.
4) Slows down the aging process
Grapes can help keep us energetic and young. Resveratrol stimulates the SirT1 gene, which has been linked to a long lifespan by affecting cell structure and protecting cells.
5) Maintains smooth digestion
Grapes contain water and fiber. These can help us stay hydrated, keep bowel movements regular, and reduce constipation risk.
