Initiative has been taken to transform the health care system through the use of AI in government hospitals of the state. Know how AI will be used in telemedicine, disease detection, vaccination and public health.
Today, when the pressure on the health system is continuously increasing in the country, due to shortage of doctors and staff, patients are not getting the right treatment at the right time, then the Uttar Pradesh government has introduced a model which is going to change the face of the government hospitals of the state in future.
There is talk of use of AI i.e. Artificial Intelligence in the health care system. AI is gradually influencing almost every sector. Health care system is also not untouched by this. The use of AI in health care has already started in many private hospitals. Now, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state government has also presented a roadmap to make AI a part of the government health system.
Discussion On AI In Health Care System
In fact, India AI and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in collaboration with the Government of Uttar Pradesh have organized the Uttar Pradesh Regional AI Impact Conference 2026 in Lucknow on 12–13 January 2026. The conference includes policy makers, health professionals, tech experts and health-startups. The main focus of the conference is to discuss AI-based diagnostics, telemedicine, health innovation and digital health infrastructure.
The focus of the UP government is clear through this program. The use of technology should be such that it makes the work of doctors and health workers easier and the right treatment reaches the patient on time.
Health Schemes Worth Rs 2000 Crore
At the event, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that schemes worth about Rs 2000 crore are being brought in for AI-based health schemes in the state. Their aim is to make health services data-driven and tech-enabled. According to the government, AI is being used for disease-surveillance, disease identification, virtual treatment and improving health indicators. With these initiatives, policy making and decision taking will be more accurate.
Entry Of AI From Telemedicine To Disease Identification
AI is being used at many levels in Uttar Pradesh. By connecting telemedicine platform with AI, people living in remote areas are also getting advice from expert doctors. This is not only saving time, but minor symptoms are also being identified earlier.
The AI based system looks at the patient’s data and gives indications to the doctors as to which patient needs more attention. Its benefits are especially visible in cases like TB, diabetes, high blood pressure, maternal and child health.
Role Of AI In Vaccination And Public Health
A major advantage of AI has emerged in public health programs. In some districts, AI based tracking system is being used to find out which children are missing vaccination. With the help of real-time data and alerts, health workers are able to do timely follow-up.
Its direct impact has been that vaccination coverage has improved and missed cases have reduced. In a big state, where both population and area are more, this change is very significant.
Trying To Take Decisions Based On Data
Earlier health plans were often based on guesswork and old data. Now, by analyzing health data with the help of AI, it is being understood which type of disease is more prevalent in which area, which age group of people are at greater risk and where resources need to be increased. This kind of data-driven approach is making policy making more robust.
Helping Doctors, Not Replacing Doctors
It has been made clear by the government that AI is not meant to replace doctors. The role of AI is that of a support system, that is, giving the right information to the doctor at the right time, so that the treatment can be better. This technology is also working as a tool for the health workers working at the ground level, making their work faster and more effective.
If an AI based health system can work in a large and diverse state like Uttar Pradesh, then it is a lesson for other states as well. This shows that with the right planning and government support, technology can be integrated into public health. In the coming time, if this model is scaled properly, it can make the country’s health system stronger and more accessible.
