Scope Of Scams: Social Media Platform And Online Fraud

Social media forums should actively remove fraudulent materials. The resources needed for the guarding of the digital economy may seem too much, but a recent case of Hyderabad explains why it is necessary. After watching a video on Instagram, a retired doctor agreed to invest more than 20 lakh rupees. It was a deep -fic video, in which Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was seen promoting an investment plan. Other similar videos have also been roaming around, showing public individuals, trying to provide credibility to the fraudulent cryptocurrency forums. Such scams take advantage of limited technical literacy of broad population, regulatory flaws in cryptocurrency trading, new uses of artificial intelligence (AI) generate deepfake and limited response to social media forums.

Despite the considerable expansion of access to the smartphone, many users are still unable to identify online deception and are inspired by fake evidences of promises and benefits of quick profits. Complaints often come up when efforts to remove returns fail. Public awareness campaigns do not reach equally everywhere and often have general information, which leave many people with the risk of scoring. In these scams, constant refined forms of deceit are used. In addition, most countries including India still do not classify them with traditional security, which creates an environment in which fraudsters work fearlessly with punishment. The whereabouts of many are abroad, they work through complex chains of wallets and can disappear overnight. Although police units have developed strength, national boundaries stop their way.

Social media forums, which become the main source of these scams, often react to passive reacts. Although companies like Instagram publish advice to avoid scams and provide the mechanism of reporting, but fraud videos and accounts remain accessible until they are removed. The policies of these forums emphasize self-protection by users, rather than actively identifying such materials. This means that these scams are broadcast for a long time before settlement of the request of removal of material removal. The giant scale of global material slows down the manual review, while automatic moderation systems are limited to identifying the diarrhea-fired videos. Since these are private companies earning profits from users’ engagement, the social media forum prefers to avoid continuous monitoring, which will include stares in the content uploaded by users. The result of this is that deepfake  scams are seen as different events, not as a systematic weakness. Three measures are necessary.

First, governments should define the standards of registration, disclosure (discloser), and border cooperation to limit the scope of fraudulent schemes. Secondly, technical literacy should be taken as a priority of public policy. Awareness related efforts should not be limited to campaigns from time to time by police units, but should be supported by continuous and educational institutions. Third, it should be necessary for social media forums to actively delete fraud. Without them, such scams will cause heavy human and gardeners.
