Cyber attackers keep up new maneuvers to swindle people. Sometimes you must have heard many stories of fraud in the name of bank details, sometimes credit cards and sometimes any government scheme. But cyber thugs’ newest weapon is Artificial Intelligence (AI), through which they’re viciously perpetrating thugs.
As technology expands. Cybercrime continues to grow, anyway. Cybercriminals now using high tech technology to prey on people. Cyber thugs are now cheating people using AI i.e. Artificial Intelligence. They’re cheating using people’s faces and voices. One such case has come to light from Faridabad, Haryana.
NIT cyber police station in-charge Naveen said that Karan, a resident of Panchsheel Colony, has lodged an FIR. In which Karan told that he got a call from an unknown number. Caller told in his friend’s voice that he had gone out for a walk. Where he had an accident. He is currently hospitalized and his phone also broke during the accident. He’s talking to someone else’s phone because of this.
Cheating via AI: According to Karan, his friend asked for 30 thousand rupees for treatment over phone. Karan, listening to friend’s trouble, transferred Rs 30,000 to his mentioned number. Later, when Karan called his friend’s number to inquire about his condition, his friend told him that he was safe. He didn’t have an accident. After which Karan realized the fraud that happened to him and lodged a complaint in the cyber police station.
Voice clone is prepared with the help of AI: Cyber expert and Central Cyber Police Station in-charge Surendra Singh said that these days such incidents are carried out with the help of AI (Artificial Intelligence). Cyber attackers needs a person’s voice sample to cheat. On the basis of which voice is cloned and then a fraud is committed with it.
Information is collected through social media: To clone the voice, cyber criminals first get that person’s information through internet, social media or any other medium. Whose voice they have to clone. Criminals then collect the young man’s name and phone number. After this, criminals call the young man posing as customer care or other service provider. Criminals record their voices during this time.
This is how they cheat: This is how criminals record their voices even from videos uploaded on social sites to take samples. After that upload this voice to AI tool for clones. After this, when a call is made to someone through this tool, the other person hears exactly that person’s voice. In such a situation, cyber criminals by posing as getting themselves into trouble through tools. Cheat people.
Because AI is the voice of a clone of Artificial Intelligence, people easily believe that he is his friend or relative. That’s why people without thinking transfer money to their mentioned number. Later they feel swindled.
Vigilance is the way to protect: Its only protection is that whenever your friends or relatives call to help with money. Or if he talks about being in an emergency, don’t be hasty at all at such times. Talk to his personal number or family members immediately. Only transfer Rs after this. If you sent money in a hurry, you could be defrauded. So if you act with a little sense, you can avoid thugs like these.
