What is digital arrest?
Digital arrest is a cyber scam. Callers in digital arrest scams ever speak confidently by becoming police, CBI, Narcotics, RBI and Delhi or Mumbai police officers. When you connect on a WhatsApp or Skype call, you get fake officers from the real. Those victims are emotionally and mentally torture.

How to identify digital arrest?
Vigilance is needed to identify digital arrest. If you have a phone or WhatsApp call from an unknown number, remember the Mumbai Police Advisory while receiving.

- Police officers will never make a video call to reveal their identity.
- Police officers will never ask you to download an app.
- Identity card, FIR copy and arrest warrant will not be shared online.
- Police officers never record statements on voice or video calls.
- Police officers are not intimidating to give money or personal information on the call.
- Police do not stop talking to other people during calls.
- There is no provision of digital arrest in the law, real arrests occur when committing a crime.
How to avoid digital arrest?
The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-N) has issued an advisory to protect people from digital arrest. CERT explained how to avoid digital arrest…
1.Be alert, be safe:Â No government investigative agency uses platforms such as WhatsApp or Skype for official communication. While online thugs are using these. Cut off the phone immediately if initially suspected. Avoid having long conversations over the phone.
2. Ignore: Cyber attackers send phone calls, e-mails to victims for digital arrest. Explains that you are under investigation under offenses such as money laundering or theft. Ignore any such calls and emails.
3. Do not panic: Cyber attackers threaten arrest or legal action during call negotiations. Their conversations and fake arguments can cause panic, but not panic. Nor to share bank details and UPI ID.
4. Avoid haste: Do not be quick to answer the questions and arguments of attackers on a call or video call. Keep calm, just listen. Do not give any personal information on general and video calls from unknown numbers.
5. Gather evidence: Save screenshots or video recordings of the call so that it can be used when necessary.
6. Avoid fishing: Apart from calls, such messages are being sent via e-mail, which seems incredible, these are cases of fishing. In this, thugs steal personal information by accessing your computer.
7. Report fraud: Immediately report any suspicious activity to the Cybercrime Helpline 1930 or website cybercrime.gov.in.
Can fake calls be complained online?
To prevent fake calls and messages coming on WhatsApp, the telecom department has launched a portal called (Chakshu). Spam calls, messages, fake calls and messages coming to WhatsApp can be complained about.
How to complain on Chakshu portal?
- Step-1: Visit the official website of the communication partner portal (sancharsaathi.gov.in).
- Step-2: Click Citizen Centric Services (Citizen Centric Services).
- Step-3: Click Report Suspect Fraud Communication (Report Suspected Fraud Communication).
- Step-4: Then go to the option of Continuous for Reporting (Continue For Reporting).
- Step-5: A form page will open here. Fill in fake call or message information in it.
- Step-6: A fraud list will be seen in the form. Click on your complaint.
- Step-7: Upload screenshots of fake calls or messages to it.
- Step-8: Write your mobile number and name in Last.
- Step-9: Submit the form after captcha code and OTP verification.
Maharashtra Police Alert
- Be alert to online fraud through digital arrest, fake matrimonial websites, dating apps, KYC, OTP, QR codes and WhatsApp, Telegram and employment sites.
How much loss from digital arrest?
According to the cyber wing of the Ministry of Home Affairs, through digital arrest, cyber Attackers are looting six crores of rupees from innocent people every day. As of October this year, there have been a total of 92,334 cases of digital arrest, with fraud of more than Rs 2140 crore.
If the average is removed, then every month there is a cyber fraud of Rs 214 crore. This is a very small figure, while the real number is much more than this. Many people do not come forward because of fear and slander.
