Often, people set alarms on their phones or clocks to wake up in the morning. Their day starts when the alarm rings. But this habit is not good for your health. Waking up to an alarm can make you prone to many diseases.
If your ‘good morning’ starts with an alarm every day, be careful. People often do this to wake up, but it’s a silent killer, slowly harming your body. You need to change this habit immediately, or you may face dangerous diseases in the future.
Effects Of Sound Of An Alarm
1. Increased Stress
Many doctors says that when an alarm rings, a person’s sleep is suddenly interrupted. The loud sound of the alarm puts the body in fight-or-flight mode. This process occurs when there is a threat. This increases stress on the body and releases a hormone called adrenaline. The level of the stress hormone cortisol also rises, which can cause the body to go into shock. The alarm also disturbs sleep, and when the sleep cycle is disrupted, a person’s mental health starts to deteriorate. This can lead to anxiety or depression.
2. Blood Pressure Problems
A study at the University of Virginia in the United States revealed that waking up to a loud alarm can sharpen brain movement, increasing blood pressure. This is called morning hypertension. According to the university’s research, this was observed in 74% of people who woke up to an alarm. People who woke up naturally had normal blood pressure.
3. Increased Risk of Heart Attack
Alarms are also linked to heart attacks. Several studies have shown that alarms directly affect the heart. Even though the noise of an alarm temporarily increases blood pressure in the morning, morning hypertension increases the risk of heart attack and stroke. This risk can double in people already suffering from heart disease. People who sleep less than 7 hours and wake up to an alarm are also at increased risk because their cardiovascular health isn’t in a good state.
4. Affects Mood
Sleep is directly connected to emotions. Mood is regulated by the brain. When the health of the brain is affected by the alarm, the mood also becomes irritable. The person gets angry as soon as they wake up and doesn’t talk properly to anyone. When the morning starts like this, the whole day is ruined.
How to Change This Habit
The habit of waking up to an alarm can be changed in several ways. First, you need to stop relying on alarms. Set a time to sleep and wake up every night. When a person sleeps and wakes up at the regular time, their body’s internal clock starts to function correctly. The room where you sleep should have natural light in the morning. When sunlight enters the room, the sleep hormone melatonin decreases automatically, and the person wakes up naturally.
