The report, titled ‘False Endorsement, Real Losses’ by digital risk management firm Athenian Tech, said the initial wave came with the circulation of Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s deep fake video, in which he was accused of supporting a platform called Google Invest. Was portrayed in a wrong way. It was reported as a government-backed initiative delivering unusually high returns. Further investigation reveals that the same eco system released a fake video of Nirmala Sitharaman, in which she appeared to support another hypothetical initiative called ‘InvestGPT’, Kanishk Gaur’s company report said. Kanishka Gaur has played leadership roles in Deloitte, EY and Synopsis.
Video’s the same as Sundar Pichai’s previous clip, using lip-sync and voice synthesis to support him. It also allowed domains to report to CERT-In and other cybersecurity authorities for immediate takedowns, notify domain registrars and hosting providers to suspend the website, block URLs within the network to prevent users from accessing it, Also suggested raising public awareness and monitoring similar domains about scams that could duplicate the scam to continue cheating under new names, through social media and official advice.
