In today’s competitive era, it is common to prioritize career. People spend hours in their studies and work in the desire of better future, economic stability and social prestige. However, this career-centric lifestyle often has a negative effect on our health, which increases the risk of career-oriented lifestyle diseases. These diseases are directly associated with our uncontrolled lifestyle, stress and poor habits.

What are careers-overall lifestyle disease?

These are diseases that are mainly the product of our modern lifestyle. These include:

  • High blood pressure: Constant stress and irregular food are a major reason for this. Work pressure and not eating on time can increase blood pressure.
  • Diabetes: Motionless lifestyle, excessive sweet and processed food intake, and sleep deficiency are responsible for increasing cases of diabetes.
  • Obesity: Desk jobs, lack of exercise, and dependence on outside food promotes obesity. Obesity is the root of many other diseases.
  • Heart diseases: Stress, smoking, high cholesterol, and physical inactivity are the major risk factor of heart diseases. People often ignore these risks in a career affair.
  • Stress and anxiety: Excessive work pressure, deadline and competition affect mental health, causing problems such as stress, anxiety and depression.
  • Digestive issues: Irregular food, fast food and stress cause problems like acidity, constipation and irritable bovel syndrome (IBS).
  • Sleep Disorders: Working late at night disrupts the screen time and stress sleep patterns, causing insomnia and fatigue.

What are the reasons?

There are many reasons behind the flourish of these diseases:

  • Working for a long time: Modern work culture often involves working for long hours, which does not give time for physical activity.
  • Mental stress: Work pressure, deadline and job insecurity causes constant stress.
  • Poor food: Due to lack of time, people often depend on fast food, processed food and packaged snacks instead of home dinner.
  • Physical inactivity: The time spent in desk jobs and commuting reduces physical activity.
  • Lack of sleep: Working late at night or being busy with entertainment reduces sleep hours.
  • Bad habits: To reduce stress, habits like smoking and alcohol also promote these diseases.

Rescue measures

Prevention of these diseases is possible, just a little awareness and lifestyle changes are needed:

  • Balanced diet: Include green vegetables, fruits, whole grains and protein in your food. Avoid processed food, excessive sugar and salt.
  • Regular exercise: Exercise at least 30 minutes of medium-spring every day. This may include walking, jogging, yoga or any game.
  • Stress management: To reduce stress, take yoga, meditation, deep breathing exercise or hobby. Create a balance between work and personal life.
  • Enough sleep: Try to get 7-8 hours of deep sleep every night. Reduce screen time before bedtime.
  • Regular health checkup: To identify diseases in the initial stage, get a doctor tested regularly.
  • Work-life balance: Do not consider the work as everything. Take time out for your family, friends and personal interests as well.

Avoiding career-oriented lifestyle disease is the biggest challenge of today. It is important to understand that no career success can be permanent without a healthy body and mind. Give priority to your health, because “First happiness is a healthy body.”
