Asthma is a major non-communicable disease that affects both children and adults. It is the most common chronic disease in children.

Asthma or bronchial asthma is a chronic airway disease in which breathing becomes difficult. Normally, in the process of breathing, the muscles around the respiratory tract are in a relaxed state. Due to this, air keeps coming in the breath. They are affected when asthma or asthma occurs.

An asthma patient should keep an inhaler with him. Ayurveda can not only treat asthma, but also the triggers can be eliminated.

Asthma is a chronic disease that affects the airways in the lungs. With the help of airways, air goes in and out of the lungs. Asthma can also cause inflammation and contraction in the airways ie airways. This makes it difficult for air to pass through the airways and carry it out.

There are about 3% asthma patients in India i.e. 30 million patients. Its incidence is 2.4% in adults over the age of 15 and 4% to 20% in children.

Bronchospasm: In an asthma attack, the layer of smooth muscle surrounding the airways tightens, causing a contraction. This makes it difficult for air to move.

Inflammation: During asthma, the inner lining of the bronchial tubes in the lungs swells. This swelling reduces the flow of air.

Excessive formation of mucus: Coughing blocks the airpath during an asthma attack. This prevents the flow of air.

Asthma attacks increase during stress, too much fatigue, allergies, and weather changes.

Causes of asthma

Genetics make it more likely to develop asthma. A history of viral infections is also a cause of asthma. People who have a history of severe viral infections during childhood, such as respiratory syncytial virus infection, may be more likely to develop this condition. If children are not exposed to enough bacteria in their early months and years, their immune system is not strong enough to fight asthma and other allergies.

Respiratory infections, exercise, environmental problems, allergies, any kind of emotion, weather conditions, pollen grains, certain medications, including aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, can also trigger asthma.

Symptoms of Asthma

The most common symptom of asthma is wheezing in the throat. There may be a whistling sound while breathing. It causes coughing at night, at night or during exercise.

Chest tightness, difficulty breathing, difficulty talking, anxiety, fatigue, chest pain, rapid breathing may be its symptoms. Frequent infections, lack of sleep are also symptoms.

Asthma: Diagnosis

There is no test that can determine whether you or your child has asthma. Health history, health checkups can help in its diagnosis. Skin tests can look for signs of an allergic reaction like hives or eczema. Allergies increase the risk of asthma. Asthma is detected by measuring the flow of air into and out of the lungs by pulmonary function tests.

Asthma: Treatment

Asthma is treated by looking at the severity.

It can be treated by early relief medications, long-acting medications for control, immediate relief and also long-acting medications. Biologics are given for severe forms, which are given by injection or infusion. Asthmatic conditions are treated based on age, triggers.

Home remedies can also be tried

  • Warm food and beverages: Take warm beverages and fresh and warm food to prevent asthma. Brown rice, protein-rich foods, green leafy vegetables, beans, carrots, cabbage, cauliflower, onions, sweet potatoes, idli, dosa, kimchi, sprouted cereals and eggs can be helpful in relieving asthma during monsoons.
  • Steam: Inhaling the vapor of boiled water with cumin, basil or essential oils causes bronchodilation and makes breathing easier.
  • Clean environment: House dust particles and damp walls trigger asthma. Take measures to deal with them as soon as possible. Bed sheets and pillow covers should be changed weekly. Vacuums should be cleaned at least twice a week.
  • Avoid allergens: Stay away from polluted areas, smoking areas, dusty areas and plants during the rainy season.

Apart from these precautions, keep taking your asthma medicines regularly.
