The reverse term of physical strength is weakness. In this, the person also feels a decrease in the normal strength of the muscles in physical activities. Along with this, you may also feel tired and lack energy. Because, due to weakness, the muscles have to work harder to do any work, as a result of which the body starts feeling tired and lacking energy. Along with this, this weakness can also affect any part of the body. For example, due to weakness of legs, one starts feeling difficulty just by walking a little. When the body begins to become weak and tired continuously and for a long time, that condition is also called asthenia.
The weakness of a particular organ can also be of two types (Types of Weakness), such as
As you know, when we do a task with one of our organs, first the brain sends signals to the muscles, and then those muscles act. But in neuromuscular weakness, muscles feel weak in receiving or acting on these signals due to any injury or damage.
At the same time, in non-neuromuscular weakness (NNW), you feel weakness in your muscles without any injury or damage.
Due to or along with weakness, you also have to face the following symptoms. Like-
1. Being tired
2. Weight loss
3. Lack of physical energy
4. Muscle cramps
5. Fever
6. Joint pain
7. Pain in body parts
8. Delay in movement of muscles
9. Body limb tremors
10. Dizziness
11. Breathing problems
12. Weak eyesight, etc.
It is not at all necessary that everyone shows the same or all the symptoms mentioned here due to weakness. Additionally, people may also show other symptoms other than those mentioned above, which are not mentioned here. If you have any doubts or questions about the symptoms associated with weakness, please discuss with your doctor.
Following could be the reasons behind weakness. Like-
1. Thyroid conditions such as hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism
2. Due to injury or damage to any part of the body
3. Electrolyte imbalances such as potassium deficiency in the body, manganese deficiency, and increased calcium levels in the blood
4. Graves’ disease, caused by autoimmune diseases such as myasthenia gravis
5. Neuromuscular disorders such as multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

10. Causes of jaundice
11. Causes of fever
12. Causes of heart disease
13. Causes of chronic fatigue syndrome, etc.
If you complain of weakness and are unable to find any real reason behind it, the doctor may do some tests to find out its hidden reason.
1. In physical examination, the doctor may examine your body’s reflexes (consciousness), senses, and muscle tone. So that he can find out the reason for weakness on the surface. If this does not lead to any conclusion, he may advise you to get some more tests done. Like-
2. Getting a CT scan or MRI test to understand your body’s internal state may be recommended.
3. It may be recommended to have a complete blood test to check for any infection or vitamin B12, folate, or other vitamins and minerals.
4. Can be asked to undergo biochemical tests to check blood glucose, serum electrolytes, liver function tests, renal function tests, thyroid function tests, etc.
5. Autoantibody screening may be recommended to rule out the risk of an autoimmune disease.
6. Tests may be recommended to rule out the risk of chronic inflammatory disease.
7. Can be asked to undergo electromyography (EMG) to test nerve activity of muscles.
8. May also be asked to have a urine test.
9. Apart from this, HIV testing, ECG, Echo, tuberculin testing, chest X-ray, urine toxicology screen, etc. can also be done to find out the risk of dangerous problems like heart disease and stroke.
