Whatsapp Phishing Scams: Fake messages, breathtaking links and trusts on WhatsApp – Cyber thugs have made the digital world the base of crime. Fishing scam floods looted the common people, but now the Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to crush this ‘cyber monster’.
Union Minister of State for Home Bundi Sanjay Kumar revealed that in 2025 so far 7.8 lakh SIM cards, 83,000 WhatsApp accounts and more than 3,000 Skype IDs have been blocked. But the courage of the thugs is no less. A fraud of 1.85 lakhs from a retired officer in Hyderabad has again raised the alarm bell.
The new weapon of the thugs WhatsApp Fishing Scam has now become the most dangerous face of cyber crime. Thugs trap innocent people by making disguise of government agencies, banks, or courier companies. Their move? Official logo, verified looking account, and demand for immediate payment. In Hyderabad, 72 -year -old retired Assistant Secretary was defused by HMWSSB’s fake WhatsApp message. By luring the ‘token of Rs 13 token’, the thugs clicked on the link, and blew 1.85 lakhs from their account in minutes. 10 unauthorized transactions and hacked phone – this is the dreadful face of cyber fraud. The police registered a case under the Indian Penal Code and the IT Act, but the thugs are still absconding.
Millions of Account Block! The Ministry of Home Affairs has waged a war against cyber fraud. In 2024, 43,797 complaints were received through WhatsApp, and 66 lakh cyber offenses were registered from 2021 to June 2024. This year, cyber fraud caused a loss of 22,845 crores, showing a 900% increase in the last 5 years. Action of Home Ministry:-
