In Hyderabad, 72 -year -old retired Assistant Secretary was defused by HMWSSB’s fake WhatsApp message. By luring the ‘token of Rs 13 token’, the thugs clicked on the link, and blew 1.85 lakhs from their account in minutes. 10 unauthorized transactions and hacked phone – this is the dreadful face of cyber fraud. The police registered a case under the Indian Penal Code and the IT Act, but the thugs are still absconding.

Black game of fishing scam: how to implicate

The strategy of cyber thugs is so clever that even very intelligent gets trapped. Their tricks:-

• Fake profiles: Government logo, verified tick mark, and trusted looking numbers.
• Immediate demand: ‘Bill’, ‘Verify the account’, or ‘Give OTP for safety’.
• Dangerous links: Malware link in the name of fake payment gateway or app updates.
• Foreign Number: Grave users with missed calls or messages.

Recently, CERT-in caught a flaw in WhatsApp’s iOS and MAC version, which can steal hackers chat and data. Users have been advised to update the app immediately.
