Android 16 QPR2 Beta 1 has been released for Android user. QPR means Quarterly Platform Release and is its first beta version, which will be fully released in December. But if you have a Pixel phone, you can test this update right now and try out new features. Please tell that Google is going to release the stable version of Android 16 QPR1 in September, but it has already brought QPR2 Beta 1. This is for beta testers and developers. If you are already in the QPR1 beta program, you can easily update to the QPR2 beta. This update is available for Pixel 6 to Pixel 9 Series and Pixel Tablet. The Pixel 10 Series is also part of this beta program.
These changes and features will appear in Android 16
1. Lock screen widgets
The funniest feature of this update is the lock screen widgets, which Google has named Hub Mode. This feature first came in Pixel Tablet and tablets of some other companies, but now it is also in phones. When your phone is on charging or placed on a dock, the lock screen becomes a widget hub. It consists of several pages and you can set them according to your own. The size and design of widgets is fixed, but you can fit multiple widgets on one screen. This allows you to see the necessary information without unlocking the phone.
2. Force dark theme
If you think your phone shines too much, then this feature is for you. Android 16 QPR2 now has a dark theme that implements dark mode even in apps that do not support it. This theme darkens up to the app’s splash screen, status bar and notification bar. This feature is of great use to those who have trouble with bright light or who have difficulty seeing it. Also, the dark theme also helps save the battery.
3. Auto-themed icon
Android 16 QPR2 features an automatic theme of App icons. This is for developers, but you will also benefit from it. Now developers have a tool that can create automatic themed icons for their apps. This will make all the icons on your home screen look alike and beautiful. The option of themed icons will now appear under the name Minimal.
4. Brightness slider
Google has given developers tools that can improve haptic feedback (vibration) in their apps, ie you will now have different types of vibration for different tasks, which will make the user experience more good. Also, a new HDR brightness slider has also arrived. This allows you to set the brightness of HDR content (such as video or photo) accordingly. This setting will apply automatically.
5. PDF editing
Now you can edit and annotate (insert notes) PDF files without any third-party app in the phone. This feature was not previously in Google’s native app. Most PDF editing apps ask for money, but now it will be found for free. This is of great use to those who work with PDF.
6. Personal audio switcher
Android 16 QPR2 features a personal audio switcher for Bluetooth LE (Low Energy) audio devices, which are connected to the output interface of the system. This allows you to easily switch audio between connected devices. Also, LE audio connections have been further improved.
7. Strong security
This update has Secure Lock Device mode, which makes your phone more secure. This mode locks the phone automatically and asks for a PIN or password to unlock, replacing biometrics (such as fingerprints). It also hides notifications and alerts on the lock screen.
Also, a new Failed Authentication toggle has arrived in Theft Protection Settings. If someone repeatedly inserts the wrong password or has a security breech, it will lock the phone.
Let us know that all these features are expected to come in the stable version of Android 16 QPR2 in December, but more new things can be added to the next beta versions. If you have Pixel 6, 7, 8, 9 Series, Pixel 10 Series or Pixel Tablet, you can test this update now by going to Android Beta Program. The advantage of testing is that you get a chance to try new features first. These updates, from lock screen widgets to dark themes and PDF editing, will make your phone smarter and user-friendly, but keep in mind if there may be some bugs in the beta version, keep data backup.
