Screen Time and Fertility: Is Screen Time Affecting Your Fertility? Know how mobile phones, laptops, blue light, obesity, and poor sleep can reduce fertility.
Nowadays our whole life is starting to revolve around the screen. From morning alarms to sleeping at night while scrolling through social media, we spend hours on mobile, laptop, and TV. Generally people associate screen addiction with mental stress or productivity, but now doctors are saying that this habit is also affecting our fertility.
According to Dr. Hetal Parekh, an IVF specialist at Dr. LH Hiranandani Hospital in Mumbai, the screen habit is sometimes taken very lightly by people, while it can disturb many important processes of the body. Especially in people who already have problems like thyroid, PCOS, low AMH, or low sperm count.
Dr. Parekh says that in many men the reason for low sperm count, poor sperm quality, or slow movement is not clear. In such cases screen addiction may be an indirect cause. Keeping the laptop in your lap for hours. This increases the temperature of the testicles, which can reduce sperm count. Keeping the mobile in the pocket of the pants, even constant heat and light radiation can affect the sperm quality. This is not the only reason, but it can increase the problem in men with weak fertility.
Screen addiction can spoil the hormone cycle not only of men but also of women. Blue light spoils sleep. Sleep cycles deteriorate due to late-night mobile use. Digital overload increases stress. All this affects the body’s hormones, due to which ovulation can become irregular. The period cycle may be disturbed. The problem of women with low AMH may be exacerbated. Fertility also reduces the habit of sitting.
Due to the screen, people remain sitting continuously, which increases weight, increases insulin resistance, and disturbs hormones. All these factors reduce the chances of pregnancy in both men and women. Mobile and laptop lights spoil our melatonin hormone, which is a sleep hormone. Sleep loss affects sperm production, ovulation, and sex drive.
Screen interference has also increased in relationships. Checking the phone all the time, getting lost in the mobile while talking to your partner, and paying more attention to notifications. This reduces emotional connection and intimacy, which directly reduces the chances of conceiving.
Doctors advise reducing screen time, keeping the phone away from the body, not keeping the laptop in your lap, keeping distance from mobile at night, doing some exercise every day, and couples keeping no-phone time. Screen addiction may not be a direct cause, but it can reduce fertility by adding many small problems. Therefore, a little change in digital life can make your journey of becoming a parent easier.
