Robots Raced With Humans For 21KM In China: Even The Fastest Robot Was 1.30 Hours Behind; World’s First Human-Robot Half Marathon

A unique half marathon race was held between humans and 21 robots in China’s capital Beijing on Saturday. This was the first time these machines raced with humans for a distance of 21 kilometers (13 miles).

This race took place in Beijing’s south-eastern Yizhuang district, where many of China’s big technology companies have their offices. Its purpose was to show China’s progress in the world of robotics and technology.

Robots from companies like China’s DroidUp and Noetics Robotics also participated in this race. The size of some of the robots involved in the race was less than 120 cm (3.9 feet), while some were up to 1.8 meters (5.9 feet) long.

Robot completed the race in 2 hours 40 minutes and human in 1 hour

Beijing Innovation Center of Human Robotics’ robot ‘Tiangong Ultra’ was the first machine to complete the race in 2 hours 40 minutes, while the human winner took 1 hour 2 minutes to complete the race.

The record of completing a 21 km marathon in the shortest time is in the name of Jacob Kiplimo (56 minutes 42 seconds). Just like humans need to drink water during the race, robots were also given permission to change batteries.

The robots were accompanied by human trainers, who also supported the machines during the race. Some robots were wearing running shoes, one was wearing boxing gloves and the other was wearing a red hand-band on which was written Bound to Bin (Ready to Win) in Chinese language.

470 robots per 10 thousand employees in China

Tang Jian, Chief Technology Officer of the Robotics Center, said that ‘Tiangong Ultra’ got the help of long legs and an algorithm during the race. Because of this it was able to run marathons like humans.

Humanoid robot market will be $66 billion by 2032: The size of the global humanoid robot market was $2.43 billion (Rs 19 thousand crores) in 2023, which is estimated to reach $66 billion (Rs 5 lakh 63 thousand crores) by 2032. Humanoid robot is a type of robot, which is shaped like a human body. Currently humanoid robots are in the initial stage of development.

At the same time, India’s humanoid robot market was $42 million (about Rs 358 crores) in 2023, which is expected to reach $149.4 million (about Rs 1200 crores) by 2030.

There will be 2.5 lakh robots in industrial jobs: Goldman Sachs estimates that by 2035, the humanoid robot market will be worth $38 billion (Rs 3 lakh 24 thousand crores). In five years, 2.5 lakh humanoid robots will be sent for industrial use. By 2035, 1 million robots will be purchased by customers.
