Scammers call claiming to be on behalf of well-known entities. These include government organizations, law enforcement, investment and legal firms, banks and telecommunications providers. They create an impression of the need for you to take immediate action. They may try to convince you to give them your personal or bank account details, or give them access to your computer. The caller may have some details available about you in advance, such as your name or address, making the call appear genuine.
1. To check the call is genuine:
a. Contact the individual or organization directly using their contact details that you have detected yourself — such as the number on the organization’s official website.
b. Contact them through the official app or website of the organization (never depend on the link sent during the call or the number given).
2.If you’re not sure who the caller is or if they’re threatening/scaring you, hang up immediately.
3.Never install software that allows another person to access your computer or device.
4. You can ignore calls coming from unfamiliar numbers or allow such calls to go to voicemail.
5.Never disclose your password, PIN, banking details or one-time code to any unknown person.
6.If a call makes you suspicious, confirm independently of the official contact references of your bank or related institution — do not follow the instructions on the call.
7.Inform your bank immediately in case of possible financial loss and contact the concerned authority/law enforcement if necessary.
