Body pain is common. This may be due to stress, fatigue, or minor injuries. Headache and body aches are also common symptoms with a mild fever. Usually, it takes 4-5 days to recover and is not a serious problem.
But it is important to know why your body is hurting with your fever. In some cases, it can be a serious sign of diseases such as flu, dengue, malaria, chikungunya, or Covid-19. The symptoms of all these diseases are similar, such as fever, nausea, chills, and body pain. If these symptoms are ignored, then the problem may increase further. In some cases, fever or body ache is the only symptom.
All these diseases are contagious, so it is important to be careful, such as staying in isolation. Take common medicines at home, and if symptoms persist after 4 days, consult a doctor.
1. Common fever
Symptoms
Symptoms of a simple fever may include headache, body aches, nausea, chills, vomiting, and, in severe cases, diarrhea.
Usually, it resolves within 3 days. However, if a fever reaches 101°F in children, it should be treated immediately, considering it an emergency.
Reason
When an external particle enters your body, your immunity starts fighting it. During this process the body temperature may increase from 99°F to 101°F. However, this is a good sign, which suggests that your immune system is working properly.
2. Flu
Symptoms
Common symptoms of influenza, or flu, include fever, headache, eye pain, sore throat, cough, and stiffness. If you catch swine flu, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea may also occur. How dangerous the flu will be depends on the virus. Its symptoms are like the common cold, but it is much more severe than that.
Reason
Influenza, or the flu, is a virus-borne disease caused by types A, B, C, and D of influenza viruses. Every type of effect is different. Usually, patients recover in 1-4 days, but this can be serious for the elderly and children.
In most cases, it spreads when a person inhales microscopic droplets from an infected person’s sneeze or cough. If you touch your nose, mouth, or eyes after touching an infected surface, you may also get an infection.
3. Covid-19
Symptoms
Common symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, muscle aches, headache, sore throat, difficulty breathing due to lack of oxygen, cough, loss of taste and smell, runny nose, redness in the eyes, and vomiting.
Not every patient shows these symptoms; some people can become infected without any symptoms (uninfected cases). A person with COVID-19 is required to isolate for at least 14 days.
Reason
Covid-19 is caused by a virus, Sars-CoV-2, or coronavirus. It can cause extreme body pain with mild to high fever, and in some cases, according to variants of the virus, it can even be life-threatening.
4. Dengue, Chikungunya, and Malaria
Symptoms
The symptoms of these three mosquito-borne diseases are largely similar. Mild to high fever, severe joint pain, headache, vomiting, and diarrhea are common symptoms. Apart from this, symptoms like cough and cold are also seen in malaria.
Reason
Dengue and chikungunya are caused by viruses, and Aedes are spread by mosquito bites. At the same time, malaria is caused by a parasite, which is spread through anaphylactic mosquitoes. If your immunity is weak, these diseases can prove fatal.
1. High fever and body aches: If after 3 days the fever does not subside and the body continues to experience severe pain and headache, do not take it lightly.
2. Persistent vomiting: If you are constantly vomiting or have blood in your vomit, it may be a sign of danger. In such a situation, immediately consult a doctor.
3. Decreased oxygen levels: If there is shortness of breath, as well as a high fever and body aches, it could be a severe symptom of Covid-19. In such a situation, it is important to get immediate treatment.
1. A normal fever does not require any special investigation.
2. Fever profile blood tests are done to confirm flu or influenza.
3. Blood tests are necessary to detect mosquito-borne diseases like dengue, malaria, and chikungunya.
4. COVID-19 is tested through swab samples and blood tests.
All tests should be done in a recognized pathology lab as per the doctor’s advice. Tests may vary depending on the nature of symptoms.
1. Usually, doctors give fever-reducing medications for a general fever.
2. To avoid infection, it is advisable to take complete rest and remain in isolation.
3. If symptoms are severe, doctors may change medications and continue treatment based on test results.
4. If necessary, doctors may decide to admit you to hospital.
Every year new viruses are emerging, due to which new diseases are spreading. Negligence can have serious consequences. If after 3 days, high fever and more body pain persist, contact a doctor immediately. However, there is no need to panic.
