The thrill changes every moment. In the Oval Test, sometimes the game seemed to be in the hands of England and sometimes in the hands of India. Then Mohammad Siraj scattered the stumps of the dangerous looking Gus Atkinson and won the match in India’s name.
England’s team, which came out to chase the target of 374 runs, was out after scoring 367 runs on the last day of the Oval Test.
Mohammad Siraj, who had crossed the boundary line after catching Harry Brook’s catch on the fourth day of the match and was targeted by some Indian cricket fans for this, the same Siraj, bowling strongly, took three out of the remaining four wickets today and ensured India’s victory. He took a total of five wickets in this innings and 9 wickets in the match and won the title of Man of the Match.
India had scored 224 runs in the first innings. After this, England could also score only 247 runs in the first innings. The credit for not letting England take much lead in the first innings goes to the pair of Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna. Both the bowlers showed the way to the pavilion to four English batsmen each.
After this, in the second innings, India scored 396 runs thanks to the century of 118 runs by opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and half-centuries from Akashdeep, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar.
In this way, India gave England a challenging target of 374 runs to win.
India had sent three England batsmen back to the pavilion for 106 runs in the second innings. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna took the early wickets, in which Siraj sent Zak Crawley and Ollie Pope to the pavilion.
But after this Joe Root and Harry Brook made the Indian bowlers yearn for wickets.
Actually, the English team, chasing the target of 374 runs, had lost three wickets before lunch on the fourth day of the match. Joe Root and Harry Brook were at the crease.
When the score reached 137 runs for three wickets, Prasidh Krishna came to bowl the 34th over of the innings.
Prasidh Krishna bowled the first ball short, on which Harry Brook played a pull shot and the ball reached deep fine leg in the air. Mohammad Siraj was standing there. Siraj, who took the most wickets in the series, caught the ball easily. The catch was completely in balance and pacer Krishna had also started celebrating the wicket.
But then Siraj made a mistake that after taking the catch, he did not pay attention to the boundary rope behind, he failed to judge how far he was from the boundary. This was the reason that his foot hit the boundary line.
This means that Harry Brook not only escaped from being out, but also six runs were added to his and the team’s account.
Harry Brook got this lifeline on a personal score of 19 runs.
England added 153 runs between lunch and tea break. Harry Brook was very aggressive and he completed his century in 91 balls. There was a partnership of 195 runs for the fourth wicket between Brook and Joe Root.
Harry Brook scored 111 and Joe Root scored 105 runs.
Indian captain Shubman Gill and England’s Harry Brook were declared Player of the Series.
Shubman Gill is the highest run scorer in this series. He scored 754 runs in 10 innings of five Tests at an average of 75.40. He missed becoming the Indian batsman with the most runs in a series by just 20 runs. This record is in the name of Sunil Gavaskar. He scored 774 runs in eight innings of four Tests at an average of 154.80 in the series played against West Indies in 1971.
Harry Brook scored 481 runs in the series at an average of 53.44.
Mohammed Siraj took the highest number of wickets in the series, 23. England’s Josh Tongue took 19 wickets.
The first match played in Leeds was won by host England by five wickets, while in the second Test played in Birmingham, India made a great comeback and won the match by 336 runs and leveled the series 1-1.
The third Test played at Lord’s was very exciting and England won it by 22 runs, while the fourth Test played in Manchester was a draw.
