If we think deeply about the way we see the world today, we see its three main bases –

  • First: human existence on Earth,
  • Second: The arrangements and efforts made by humans according to their needs to make their lives comfortable and safe from their origin, i.e. the organization of human life. And
  • Third: Civilization and culture created by humans with their own nature, intelligence.

Man is the only creature on earth who first made the experiences gained through his senses the basis of his intellectual development. Man created resources with his intelligence and by developing resources and moving forward with their help, took this world to today’s modern state.

Undoubtedly, human intellectual development has continued throughout this process and will continue throughout eternity. Thus, in human civilization, this sequence of development of resources through intelligence and then development of intelligence through resources has been going on continuously and will continue.

It can be clearly said that today man is the doer of all the activities of this world. There can be no denying that since its origin on this earth, humans have made every possible effort for their existence, facilities and interests.

In the true sense, this developed form of this world today is the result of human continuous efforts. But it is not that every effort made by humans towards progress has always given positive results. There have been many systems and inventions related to civilization, culture and dignity developed by humans, which have been misused by humans themselves.

In the past, many systems of human civilization and culture have taken the form of evils and have ultimately had to be eradicated. Similarly, decorum and technology have many times proved to be a curse rather than a boon.

Undoubtedly, righteousness and evil, sin and virtue, good and evil have always gone together in this world. Evil has always existed along with good in the world. The truth is that if there was no feeling of good then there would be no experience of evil, and if there was no evil then humans would never understand the importance of good.

This struggle for conflict between good and evil has continued in this world since the beginning. From a human perspective, every activity in the world can be weighed in the scales of good and evil, and this is basically the foundation that has given rise to systems such as policy, rules and regulations within human civilizations around the world.

The world famous Greek philosopher Aristotle (384–322 BC) was a great scholar of many subjects like mathematics, spirituality, poetry, drama, music, logic, politics, ethics, and science. He said — “man is a social animal.” That is, living in community and society is an innate tendency of man.

Due to this specialty of man, human civilization has been able to reach here today. It is the tendency to live in communities and societies that has taught man the identity of right–wrong, right–inappropriate and moral–immoral conduct.

It is on this basis that man has defined good and bad deeds in his/her country and societies, and then has made provision for punishment for bad deeds or crimes commensurate with their seriousness.

In other words, man has continuously developed and created principles of policy and justice according to his country, time and circumstances, which determine what is right and what is wrong for man or his society, what is virtue and What is sin, what is duty and what is crime.

While continuously developing in various civilizations and societies of the world, since ancient times, man has committed some acts which have been considered inappropriate from the point of view of policy and principles of justice and have been kept in the category of crimes.

Truth be told, the entire concept of crimes can be considered to have originated from the time humans started becoming civilized. Crime is a form of human behavior.

Following Are Some Definitions Given By Scholars To Understand The Basic Concept Of Crime —

  • According to Cyrilain: “crime is such a fatal act against social values for which society arranges punishment.”
  • According to Thorsten Selen: “crime is a violation of the ethics–rules of the behavior of human groups.”
  • According to Pitog Tappan: “crime is a harmful act or conduct that violates state law.”
  • According to Sethna: “any act is an offense or punishable which is prohibited at any particular time in accordance with the law laid down by the State.”

In the context of the crime as a whole, it can be concluded in theoretical terms that the crime is an act which, being immoral, is against the principles of law and for which the penalty is prescribed.

If we understand this concept more closely, then generally crime means any act or conduct which the society considers as a threat to its systems and declares as immoral or illegal.

Truth be told, rules–, peace and order cannot be imagined in the society without laws, because the law itself determines which acts or conduct are harmful to the society and which are those institutions which are in accordance with the law. Are responsible for maintaining the arrangements.

In fact, the provision of punishment under the law is made for the purpose of preventing the members of the society from behaving towards each other and governance and law and order in a way that attacks decent, respectable social, economic or political systems. yes.

That is why in the legislation of every country some acts are defined as prohibited, describing them as “offences”.

There are many types of crimes and each crime causes a different type of damage. Some crimes are fatal for human beings like—theft, murder, rape etc.

Some crimes cause damage to property such as — robbery, theft or arson.

Some crimes harm governance and law and order like obstruction of justice process, treason etc.

Similarly some crimes are against morality like— obscenity, gambling, betting etc.

Being an essential form of human behavior, criminal tendencies have undoubtedly flourished within humans since early times. From this it can be clearly said that as human civilization, culture and dignity have developed, the criminal tendencies present in human society have also been developing in new forms.

Along with the continuous development of human civilization in the world, criminal tendencies have also been changing their form in accordance with social, economic, political, scientific, technological and population related changes. Over time, crime trends have added a new layer to every layer of society. Whenever civilization and society have moved towards modernity, crimes have also given rise to new crimes at the same pace in their more organized and modern form.
