In the last one year, many incidents of death due to heart disease have come to light in India. Videos of people suddenly getting heart attacks while sitting, dancing, exercising have surfaced.
It is seen in the video that people suddenly fall due to heart attack and die. It has also been revealed that some people already had heart related diseases. Some such cases that have come up recently are-
46-year-old Kannada actor Puneet Rajkumar had a heart attack.
41-year-old TV actor Siddharth Shukla had a heart attack.
59-year-old comedian Raju Srivastava had a heart attack while exercising in the gym.
A 21-year-old boy fell on the stage while dancing in Jammu and Kashmir. He had a heart attack and died.
A 35-year-old man died of a heart attack while playing Garba in Mumbai.
Last week, a 33-year-old gym trainer fainted while sitting. He died of a heart attack.
Although there is no evidence of any of these cases being linked to COVID, some people are seeing heart attacks as an effect of the corona epidemic.
At present, the cases of corona infection in India have reduced significantly, but doctors have been warning about its long-term effects earlier as well.
In such a situation, let us know what is the connection between corona infection and heart diseases? At the same time, how does the vaccine affect.
Apart from common respiratory problems (from cold to pneumonia), it is also important to note that COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses can increase the risk of heart diseases.
Information received after other epidemics shows that these symptoms reduce life expectancy, that is, people may die prematurely.
After the Spanish flu of 1918, rare cases of brain fog and persistent fatigue were reported in the scientific literature of that time. Brain fog means a person’s thinking process is slowed down. He has difficulty in remembering and concentrating. Both these symptoms have also been seen in Covid-19.
But, apart from the general symptoms of the Spanish flu, it also had some long-term effects. After this, cases of heart attacks were seen continuously. Between the years 1940 and 1959, there was such a wave of heart attack cases that shook the whole world.
It was very strange to have so many cases of heart attack and it was difficult to explain it. But, today we know that the flu epidemic was the reason for this. In a way, this virus had left a time bomb in the people who had recovered. They were not completely healthy even after recovery.
Men were especially affected by these heart-related diseases as happened in the flu epidemic and Covid-19. The possible reason for this was said to be that in 1918, due to an abnormal immune response in men between 20 and 40 years of age, this problem was seen later.
At the same time, it was revealed that being infected with the 1918 flu virus before birth can increase the risk of heart diseases after 60 years.
Later studies found that influenza virus infection increases the development of atherosclerotic plaques. These plaques accumulate in the blood vessels and blood flow is obstructed. This can cause a heart attack. At the same time, damage to the endothelium present in the blood vessels also forms plaques and increases the risk of heart attack.
Data collected in the early months of the pandemic shows that heart problems have increased after infection with the corona virus.
Due to this, diseases like heart failure, myocardial damage, arrhythmias and acute coronary syndrome have started increasing.
There are two possible causes of heart disease due to corona, both of which are evidence-based:
When the body responds abnormally to the immune response after being infected with the virus, it can damage the heart.
This causes the blood vessels to thicken, reducing the space for blood flow in them and obstructing it. This is called vascular inflammation.
This is why this problem became more severe in people who already suffered from heart diseases.
The corona virus enters the body using the ACE2 protein, which is present in abundance in endothelial cells. These cells are found in blood vessels.
This protein is necessary for the functioning of the heart, maintaining normal blood pressure, electrolyte control and repairing veins.
As COVID-19 affects the endothelium, it can damage the placenta and lead to miscarriage. Even the blood vessel damage in pregnant women due to COVID-19 is similar to cases where an imbalance in blood pressure leads to blood vessel damage and miscarriage.
In addition, other studies show that the virus causes damage to fetal organs in early pregnancy as a result of an abnormal immune response.
The effect of protein S on the endothelium is linked to the potential damage to blood vessels. The mRNA-based vaccines are blamed for this. The mRNA in these vaccines make protein S in these tissues so that the immune system recognizes it and becomes active against it. But this damage could not be shown.
Although there are attempts to warn about vaccine-related damage to blood vessels, scientific data does not support this.
A recent publication in the medical journal JAMA showed that 192.5 million people have been vaccinated in the US. Of these, 8.4 million people developed myocarditis (inflammation of the heart arteries), and 92 of these people needed specialised treatment. But no one died.
There is no reason to worry about this. In people who have had mild symptoms of myocarditis a few days after vaccination, this potentially indicates a more aggressive inflammatory process. But protein S does not directly cause damage.
Even after vaccination, protein S levels in the blood are very low and its effect on the endothelium disappears within a few days.
Based on the data and examples from previous pandemics, COVID-19 increases the risk of heart disease and reduces life expectancy more than other respiratory infections, either by increasing existing damage to blood vessels or by causing new damage. This can lead to death months and even years after infection.
The good news, however, is that vaccination has been shown to be effective against these effects and against COVID-19. This is because if the virus does not reach the bloodstream, how will it affect the heart?
This is another reason why we should not let ourselves get infected by the coronavirus without preparation. Vaccination saves lives, even years later.
