China opened a 10G broadband network on April 20, 2025 in Sunan County, Hebei province. Here “G” does not mean generation, but it is a brief form of gigabit. It is the world’s first and top most commercial wired broadband network that gives up to 10 gigabits speed per second (GBPS). It is not a wireless mobile network like 5G or 6G. It is built on the Advanced Fiber-Optic Technology 50G Passive Optical Network (50G-Pon). Huawei and China Unicom collaborated to establish this network.
It provides 9,834 Mbps download speed and 1,008 Mbps upload speed with 3 millisecade lacca. Explain this speed in such a way that it will take about 7-10 minutes to download about 20 GB size 4K movies on 1 GBPS connection. With the new 10G broadband network, it will be less than 20 seconds.
The 10G network will support low-altacy data-intensive applications. It will be applied in cloud gaming with smooth switching, AI-operated smart home and remote surgery. Apart from the above, smart agriculture, distance education, smart city and telemedicine will be supported. This can help in real -time data processing for autonomous car systems. This is also the planned objective of China.
The arrival of the 10G broadband network resulted in the development of China Global Broadband Technology. It has surpassed the current commercial broadband speed of countries such as the UAE and Qatar, whose average speed is 543 Mbps and 521 Mbps respectively. Roll-out in Sunan County and Gionag is also part of the national strategy, which is large in China. China plans to expand it to 168 sites.
India’s broadband infrastructure dominates wireless techniques such as fiber-optic (FTTH), DSL, cable and 5G fixed wireless access (FWA). The fastest speed is provided by operators such as real-life excitel. Its average download speed in Delhi is 77.2 Mbps and upload speed is 54.7 Mbps. Some companies such as Geopier and Airtel Exostream fiber offer 1 GBPS plans, but lack of infrastructure usually reduces speed. In March 2025, India’s fixed broadband average download speed was 58.62 Mbps and upload speed 50.42 Mbps. It ranks 87th globally. China’s 10G network is 100 times higher than India’s real -world broadband speed (9,834 Mbps vs 77.2 Mbps).
Huawei was established in 1987 and is headquartered in Shenzhen. It is the world’s leading company in telecom equipment and networking solutions. Huawei has been at the forefront of optical broadband as well as 5G strategies.
China Unicom is one of China’s three major government -owned telecommunications service providers. It provides broadband, mobile and enterprise services across the country.
