Anaemia: Know Its Causes, Symptoms, And Effective Treatment

Do you always feel tired? Is the complexion of your face not the same as before? It may be possible that these are signs of blood deficiency, i.e., anaemia. Anaemia is a condition that occurs due to the deficiency of red blood cells (anaemia is caused by the deficiency of), which help in carrying oxygen to various parts of the body. In this blog, we will learn about the causes, symptoms, and effective treatment of anaemia so that you can avoid this problem and take care of your health.

What Is Anaemia?

Anaemia, medically known as anaemia, is a condition in which the amount of red blood cells (RBCs) or haemoglobin in the body becomes less than normal (haemoglobin deficiency). Haemoglobin is a type of protein found in red blood cells, and its main function is to deliver oxygen to different parts of the body. When the amount of haemoglobin in the body decreases, the body does not get enough oxygen, which can cause problems like fatigue, weakness, dizziness, and difficulty breathing.

According to the leading internal medicine doctor in Gurgaon at Miracles Apollo Cradle/Spectra, the causes of anaemia can be many, such as iron deficiency, vitamin B12 or folic acid deficiency, bleeding, or genetic diseases. It is very important to be recognized and treated at the right time so that the normal functionality of the body is maintained.

Due To Blood Loss

1. Iron Deficiency: The most common cause of anaemia is iron deficiency. Iron helps in making haemoglobin in the body, which works to transport oxygen to different parts of the body. Due to iron deficiency, haemoglobin cannot be produced, which causes anaemia.

2. Vitamin B12 and Folic Acid Deficiency: Vitamin B12 and folic acid deficiency can also cause blood deficiency. Both these vitamins play an important role in the formation of red blood cells.

3. Bleeding: If excessive bleeding occurs from the body due to any reason, there is a deficiency of blood in the body. This bleeding can be due to any injury, surgery, menstrual period, or bleeding from the digestive system.

4. Genetic Causes: In some cases, the cause of anaemia disease may be genetic. For example, diseases like thalassemia and sickle cell anaemia cause anaemia.

5. Cancer and Other Diseases: Some cancers, especially blood cancer, and chronic kidney disease can also cause anaemia.

Blood Deficiency (Anaemia) Symptoms

1. Fatigue and Weakness: The most important symptom of anaemia is fatigue and weakness. Due to lack of adequate oxygen in the body, the person always feels tired and does not feel like working.

2. Dizziness and Headache: Lack of blood often causes dizziness and headache. These symptoms are especially felt when you stand suddenly or do any physical exertion.

3. Yellowish Skin and Nails: Due to lack of blood in the body, the colour of the skin and nails turns yellow. This is a very clear sign that there is a haemoglobin deficiency in your body.

4. Difficulty Breathing: Lack of blood causes lack of oxygen, which can cause difficulty in breathing, especially when you are doing any heavy work.

5. Heart Palpitations: Due to lack of blood, the heartbeat can also become faster. This occurs due to the heart having to work harder to deliver oxygen to various parts of the body.

6. Cold Hands and Feet: Due to lack of blood, sufficient blood and oxygen do not reach the body parts, due to which hands and feet become cold.

7. Lack of Concentration: Due to lack of blood, the brain does not get enough oxygen, which can lead to decreased concentration and poor memory.

Blood Deficiency (Anaemia) Treatment

1. Iron Supplements: If the cause of anaemia is iron deficiency, your doctor may advise you to take iron supplements. Iron supplements increase the amount of iron in the body and produce haemoglobin.

2. Vitamin B12 and Folic Acid Tablets: If the cause of anaemia is vitamin B12 or folic acid deficiency, then the doctor will advise you to take these vitamin tablets. These produce red blood cells in the body.

3. Improvement in Diet: To avoid anaemia, pay special attention to your diet. Eat iron-rich foods like green leafy vegetables, dry fruits, meat, eggs, and grains. Also, eat foods rich in vitamin C, such as oranges, lemons, and strawberries, which help with iron absorption.

4. Blood Transfusion: If the blood loss is very high and the condition is serious, then the doctor may advise you to get a blood transfusion. In this process, healthy blood is injected into the body.

5. Regular Checkup: While treating anaemia, it is very important to have regular checkups to know how effective the treatment is and whether any additional steps need to be taken.

6. Yoga and Exercises: Yoga and light exercises improve blood circulation in the body, which helps in dealing with the problem of anaemia. Include pranayam and light stretching exercises in your daily routine.

7. Other Treatments: If the cause of anaemia is due to a serious disease, such as cancer or chronic kidney disease, then treatment of that disease is necessary. Take steps towards treatment with the advice of the doctor.

Blood Deficiency (Anaemia) Prevention

1. Healthy Diet: To avoid anaemia, consume a diet rich in iron, vitamin B12, and folic acid. Consume green leafy vegetables, fruits, pulses, and grains.

2. Regular Checkup: Keep getting regular blood checkups done to detect anaemia early. With this, anaemia can be detected in time, and treatment can be started.

3. Body Cleansing: Take care of body cleanliness so that any kind of infection that can cause anaemia can be avoided.

4. Avoid Smoking and Drinking: Smoking and alcohol consumption can increase anaemia. Avoid these and adopt a healthy lifestyle.

5. Exercises and Yoga: Regular exercise and yoga improve blood circulation in the body, which reduces the risk of anaemia.

Conclusion

Anaemia can be a serious health problem, but it can be controlled with timely detection and proper treatment. By changing your lifestyle and diet, you can avoid blood deficiency and live a healthy life. If you or anyone you know notices symptoms of anaemia, immediately contact your nearest internal medicine doctor near you and get tested. Health is the real wealth; take care of it and stay healthy.
